Shortly after the Treaty of Paris where the former British colonies obtained their independence from the crown, the Confederated States of the America collapsed to infighting between states over newly acquired western lands. The Union of States formed between New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Union solved their differences by adopting a Federal Parliament which was granted rights over the western lands. and distributed it to the smallest state Rhode Island in order to keep the state in their Union. At the same time war between North and South Carolina over the Western lands ended up in a dictatorial union of the two states under self proclaimed King Joseph Hewes. The states of Virginia and Maryland had a three week war over the western territory which was ended when the Union came to the aid of Maryland and admitted it to their Federation. Virginians having seen their Republican system fail them rallied behind George Washington and installed him as Dictator and later crowned him King George IV of Virginia. The states of Georgia and newly proclaimed Republic of Mississippi resolved their differences diplomatically and agreed on a well defined border. The remaining states in New England formed a monetary commonwealth but refused to cooperate with each other further due to conflicting claims in the Maine Territory.
